Tare Lhamo (1938–2003) was a Tibetan Buddhist master, visionary, and treasure revealer, renowned for her life-saving miracles during the Cultural Revolution in eastern Tibet and for extending the lifespans of many masters.
At age one, Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdral Yeshe Dorje recognized her as the rebirth of Sera Khandro, a famous emanation of Yeshe Tsogyal. She was also the rebirth of a yogin named Tra Gelong Tsultrim Dargye. In the West, she is best known for recognizing Dudjom Sangye Pema Shepa as a rebirth of Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdral Yeshe Dorje.
At 40, she became the wisdom consort of Namtrul Rinpoche Jigme Phuntsok, aka Orgyen Namkha Lingpa (1944–2011), the Fourth Namkai Nyingpo and the rebirth of her father, Apang Terchen. For almost twenty years, the eminent couple collaborated in revealing and disseminating treasures, organizing and sponsoring projects, and creating new programs of study and practice.
Toward the end of her life, Tare Lhamo had visions of Vajravarahi, who assured her they were inseparable. Sadly, shortly after that, she passed away shortly from a sudden illness in Chengdu. Her reliquary stupa stands beside Namtrul Rinpoche’s at their home monastery, Nyenlung, in Sichuan, China.
